ANNAPOLIS, Md., June 22 (DC Times Online) — Maryland election officials removed Ian Andre Roberts from the state voter rolls on June 2, according to The Washington Times, after records showed he had been registered for more than a decade and listed twice.

The Washington Times reported that Maryland absentee ballots had been mailed to Roberts while he remained on the rolls. The paper said registration forms show he checked the citizenship box and signed under penalty of perjury.

Republican Del. Matt Morgan, who chairs the Maryland House Freedom Caucus, said the case shows why “Marylanders have lost faith in our elections.” Morgan has pressed state officials for answers about how Roberts stayed on the rolls for so long.

Maryland elections administrator Jared DeMarinis has previously warned against “improper cancellation,” a reference to removing eligible voters by mistake. The reporting does not show whether Roberts cast a ballot in Maryland, only that he remained listed in state records until his removal.

The case has also drawn congressional scrutiny. In January, Republican Rep. Bryan Steil said the investigation would continue after Maryland officials did not provide complete answers about the voter-roll dispute.
