NEW ORLEANS, June 27 (DC Times Online) — James Carville said he “can’t be in the same party” as Darializa Avila Chevalier, a candidate described in reports as backed by Zohran Mamdani, and called on Democrats to consider a formal split after New York primary wins by candidates aligned with the party’s left wing.

Speaking on the Politicon podcast, the longtime Democratic strategist said, “I’m just not, and I actually do think it’s time for Democrats to talk ‘the S-word.’ ‘Schism.’ I really do.”

Carville also said, “I’m done, I’m not in that f—ing political party,” and added that he did not want to be in a party “that denies the right of the state of Israel to exist.” He said candidates with views he rejects should “start your own movement” or “form your own party.”

He singled out Avila Chevalier, described in the coverage as a union organizer and Democratic congressional candidate, and said, “Lady, I ain’t in the same party as you.” The remarks followed New York primary victories reported for Avila Chevalier, Claire Valdez and Brad Lander.

In a separate New York Times op-ed cited by the Washington Examiner, Carville had already warned that Democrats were “steamrolling toward a civilized civil war” and said it was “necessary,” though he argued the fight should be delayed until after the 2026 midterm elections.
