WASHINGTON, June 15 (DC Times Online) — Sen. Mitch McConnell was admitted to a hospital in Washington on Sunday morning, and his office said the Kentucky Republican was “receiving excellent care.”

Spokesperson David Popp did not disclose why McConnell, 84, was hospitalized.

On Tuesday, Popp told CBS News that McConnell was “fully engaged with staff on Senate business and Kentucky matters.”

The hospitalization is McConnell’s second this year. His office said in February that he checked himself into a local hospital for evaluation on the night of Feb. 2 after experiencing “flu-like symptoms” over the previous weekend.

McConnell was discharged on Feb. 10, according to his office. After that release, Popp said McConnell was feeling better and would work from home for the rest of that week on doctors’ advice.
