FLINT, Mich., June 28 (Our Michigan Times) — Genesee County prosecutors have charged Damien O’Brien and Jessica O’Brien in connection with the death of their 7-year-old son, Casper O’Brien, according to online court records.

The charges listed in the records include second-degree murder, torture and child abuse.

Casper died Nov. 4, 2025, after a 911 call earlier that day reported that he was not breathing at the Flint Township home he shared with his parents, according to law enforcement information cited in the records.

Court documents say Casper weighed 255 pounds at the time of his death. Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton said in a statement that he believed the parents neglected the child to the point that he became obese and described the case as one of “reckless and intentional neglect.”

Online court records identify Damien O’Brien as 40 and Jessica O’Brien as 41. The pair are expected to appear at a probable cause conference Thursday.
